What does a customs broker do?

Customs brokers contribute to clearing shipments with customs. This means that they take care of trade duties and fees of a shipment being imported into a particular country, so it can enter the country and be delivered quickly without penalties. Some of their responsibilities include:

  1. Properly classify the freight
  2. Assess tariffs and duties
  3. Gather the paperwork and documentation related to the shipment like packing list, invoice, etc.
  4. File paperwork with Customs and Border Patrol
